The journey began in 1956 with the establishment of AIIMS New Delhi, envisioned to raise the bar for medical education and treatment in India. Over the decades, in response to growing healthcare demands and regional disparities, the Government of India expanded this vision.

AIIMS, or the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, represents India’s premier network of autonomous public medical universities. Established by an Act of Parliament, these institutions are designed to set benchmarks in medical education, clinical excellence, and research innovation.

As of 2025, there are 26 AIIMS institutes across India, some fully operational and others in advanced stages of development — all aimed at decentralizing access to quality healthcare and education.

Admission to the MBBS program at all AIIMS institutions is governed by the central reservation policy laid down by the Government of India. The seat distribution follows the latest national guidelines and ensures fair representation across various social and economic categories.

Category-wise Reservation Breakdown:

• Unreserved (General/UR): 40.5%
• Other Backward Classes (OBC – Non-Creamy Layer): 27%
• Scheduled Castes (SC): 15%
• Scheduled Tribes (ST): 7.5%
• Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): 10%
• Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): Reservation applies horizontally within each of the above categories as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

Important Highlights:

• The above reservations are applied to the total number of MBBS seats in each AIIMS individually.
• PwBD reservations are not a separate category; they are distributed proportionally within the UR, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS quotas.
• All candidates claiming OBC/EWS/SC/ST/PwBD status must provide valid, updated certificates as per the latest government format during counselling.

Note:

This policy ensures that candidates from socially and economically underprivileged backgrounds, as well as those with disabilities, get equitable access to premier medical education across all AIIMS campuses in India.

Additional Quotas and Reservation Policies

Apart from the central reservation categories (UR, EWS, OBC, SC, ST, PwBD), the following additional provisions and quotas apply at AIIMS institutes:

• Institutional Preference (Internal Quota):
  Some AIIMS may give limited preference to students from the same state/region only if officially notified. Currently, AIIMS New Delhi and most others follow an All India Quota (AIQ) policy with no state domicile-based internal quota. Always verify during counselling.
• Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD):
  A 5% horizontal reservation is applicable across all categories (UR, OBC, SC, ST, EWS). This is in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
• Foreign Nationals (FN):
  AIIMS New Delhi only reserves 7 MBBS seats for foreign nationals, nominated by the Government of India through the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

AIIMS MBBS 2025-2026 Admission Process

All AIIMS MBBS admissions for 2025 will be conducted through the NEET UG 2025, administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). AIIMS no longer conducts any separate entrance exam.

• NEET UG 2025 Exam Date: First Sunday of May 2025 (expected)
• NEET Result: First/Second week of June 2025
• Counselling by MCC: Begins after NEET results; four rounds (Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up, Stray Vacancy)

Eligibility Criteria (As per NMC Guidelines)

To apply for AIIMS MBBS 2025 admission via NEET UG, you must:

1. Age: Must be 17 years or older by December 31, 2025
2. Citizenship:
   • Indian Citizens
   • Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are eligible
   • Foreign Nationals are eligible only for AIIMS New Delhi (7 seats)
3. Academic Qualification:
   • Passed Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English
   • Minimum qualifying marks in PCB:
     • 50% for General/UR
     • 45% for PwBD (UR)
     • 40% for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PwBD (reserved categories)

Step-by-Step Admission Process:

1. Appear for NEET-UG

• Single national-level exam
• Conducted by NTA

2. Register for AIQ Counselling at the MCC Portal

• Website: https://mcc.nic.in
• Select AIQ UG Counselling
• Upload documents, fill choices

3. Choice Filling and Locking

• You will get the option to choose all AIIMS as per your preference
• Choices can be filled and modified until the last day
• Lock your choices before the deadline (or auto-lock happens)

4. Seat Allotment Rounds:

• Round 1
• Round 2
• Mop-Up Round
• Stray Vacancy Round

5. Reporting to Allotted AIIMS

• After seat allotment, download the allotment letter
• Report physically to the allotted AIIMS within 5-7 days with original documents

1. Rank-wise Planning:

• AIIMS Delhi is the top priority (NEET rank under 150–200)
• Next: Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Rishikesh

2. Lock All AIIMS in Preference Order

• Don’t just select a few top AIIMS; choose all 20 AIIMS if you’re open to location

3. AIIMS vs Other Colleges

• Choose AIIMS over private/deemed universities, even with the remote location

4. Be Realistic But Ambitious

• Don’t skip higher-ranked AIIMS even if chances are low — no penalty for ambition in Round 1

5. Review Before Locking

• Once locked, choices can’t be changed until the next round (if eligible)

Reporting Timelines & Upgradation Rules:

Reporting Time After Seat Allotment:

• Generally, 5–7 days after the result of each round
• Visit to allotted AIIMS physically
• If not reported in time, → the seat will be cancelled

Upgradation Rules:

• If you join the college after Round 1:
  • You can opt for upgradation in Round 2
  • If you get upgraded in Round 2, the first seat is automatically cancelled
• If you don’t get upgraded, your existing seat is retained

Exit Rules:

• Free Exit in Round 1: If you don’t report, → no penalty
• Exit with Forfeiture in Round 2: If you don’t join → ₹10,000 penalty
• No Exit after Round 2

Important Notes:

• AIIMS Delhi has foreign national and government nominee seats—Not through NEET AIQ.
• AIIMS does not conduct separate counselling; all admissions are through MCC AIQ.
• No state domicile reservation in any AIIMS; all seats are open under AIQ (except for PwD/EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST quota).

Foreign Nationals (including NRI) – MBBS Admission at AIIMS

Only AIIMS New Delhi offers MBBS seats for Foreign Nationals and NRI candidates.

Eligibility for Foreign Nationals (incl. NRI):

1. Citizenship: Must be a citizen of a country other than India, or hold NRI/OCI/PIO status.
2. Qualification: Equivalent of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.
3. Minimum Marks: At least 50% aggregate in PCB subjects.
4. NEET-UG Requirement: Mandatory for all foreign/NRI/OCI candidates from 2025 onwards (as per NMC).

Important Notes:

• Foreign Nationals do not apply via MCC or AIIMS INI-CET portal for MBBS.
• They apply directly through Indian Embassy/MoE via diplomatic channels.
• NRI candidates fall under Foreign quota only in AIIMS Delhi.
• OCI/PIOs are treated at par with Indian nationals for other AIIMS, subject to MHA/NMC guidelines.

AIIMS MBBS 2025 – Key Highlights

Important Notes:

The exam is held in offline mode (pen and paper-based) and not as a Computer-Based Test (CBT).
