IIT Jammu is one of the most prestigious Engineering institutes in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian Institute of Technology Jammu has been ranked 67th among the top 100 Engineering colleges in India by NIRF 2023.
Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (popularly known as IIT Jammu) is an institute of national importance that was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India in 2016. It was mentored by IIT Delhi in its initial phases. In 2018, IIT Jammu shifted the primary operations from its temporary campus in Paloura to the main campus in Jagti, Nagrota. The State Government of Jammu and Kashmir has provided land of 400-acre for the establishment of the permanent campus. Currently, Phase 1-A of the main campus which is spread across an area of 25 acre is operational, whereas Phase 1-B and 1-C are still under construction. At present, the Institute conducts three programmes, including BTech, MTech and PhD majorly in the Engineering stream. These courses are offered by the 10 departments of IIT Jammu.
The campus of IIT Jammu offers all essential facilities, such as hostel accommodation, cafeteria, open gym, laundry centres, digital classrooms, music room, TT tables, snooker table, dispensary, and a common hall with TV for indoor recreational activities. Besides, the Institute also has an Innovation and Incubation Centre on the campus that fosters the entrepreneurial spirit in the students. It was established under MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC).
