dentified as an ‘Institute of Eminence’, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras or IITM) was established in 1959 as a public technical and research university. It is the third IIT be set up by the Government of India and is autonomous in nature. Located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, the IIT Madras campus is home to India’s first university-based research park- IITMR. Presently, IIT Madras offers around 100 UG, PG, joint degree, exchange and research programmes. It awards the degree of BTech, BTech-MTech (Dual Degree), BS-MS (Dual Degree), Integrated MA, MTech, MBA, MSc, MS by Research and PhD in the fields of Engineering, Science, Architecture, Management, and Social Sciences. BTech is the flagship programme of IIT Madras and it is of four-year duration. The duration of PG programmes, such as MTech, MBA, MSc, etc. is two years each. Additionally, IITM has signed MoUs with foreign universities to offer Joint PhD and JDP programme.
