NIT Agartala was established as the Tripura Engineering College in 1965 and was later converted to the National Institute of Technology by the Government of India in 2006. NIT Agartala, also known as NITA is located in Agartala, Tripura. NIT Agartala is an autonomous institute under the NIT Act of Parliament. NITA is a public institute and has secured the 91st rank in the NIRF 2023 Rankings under the engineering category. The National Institute of Technology Agartala is a centrally funded institution and is also the 20th National Institute of Technology in the country.
NIT Agartala has signed several MoUs at the National and International levels with other institutions and organisations. The Institute has established academic tie-ups with IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, Jadavpur University, IIEST (formerly BESU), NITK Surathkal, NIT Warangal, IIT Madras, among other renowned institutes.
NIT Agartala offers full-time BTech, MTech, MSc, MBA, and PhD programmes in various specialisations. The BTech programme is offered in several branches such as Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering, among others. The institute also offers dual degrees BS-MS and BT-MT (BTech+MTech) programmes in science and engineering, respectively.
